| Tlos |
To get to Tlos, you climb up a
steep and windy road which our 6-8 seater jeep really struggled up
when fully loaded! The ruins themselves offer spectacular
views over
the valley which makes it clear why the city was built on this site.
As in so much of this area, the ruins date from the Lycians,
through the Greeks and Romans to the 15th Century. The site includes graves built into the rockside (one of which is supposed to be that of Bellerephon), an amphitheatre and a racetrack.
Travelling on up beyond the ruins, there are two restaurants
- the higher is more touristy but has a bar with trout swimming in
it and a pool of icy water. Stay in for 5 minutes and you get
a free drink, 15 and you get a free meal! "Tlos was amazing and our lunch at the
trout farm an unexpected bonus in yet another stunning location." -
