The ruins of Xanthos
are in a stunning location on a hill overlooking the bottom
part of the valley and facing the sea and Patara. Xanthos was the
centre of the Lycian kingdom and was later occupied by the the Greeks and Romans.
The
ruins are very open and show Lycian as well as Greek and Roman
features including the a well preserved amphitheatre, a Roman street and a Byzantine church.
